Hi Philip, great post.

I love it when writers unfold topics and explain things in new ways. This is a really helpful post. The Fun Scale is definitely worth talking about!

Childbirth is Fun Type 3: not fun ever. But perhaps it could be a Type 3A: Not Fun Ever But You Have a Lot of Help and It's Worth It Anyway. One thing my mom said when I was pregnant with my first child really helped me: "You can't recreate physical pain: you can remember it hurt like hell, but you can't bring the pain back into your body after it's left."

I wonder if this is true for emotional pain as well. We can remember being sad / happy / angry, but once we have processed the emotion, the sting of it is lessened.

I appreciate that the physical action of climbing and going back down can help you recover and reset from an emotionally difficult place. You look peaceful in the picture. Thanks, Anna
